My name is Katie and I research giraffes in Botswana, Africa. Here is a map of Africa:
The terrain here is mostly made up of savannas. The giraffes are forced to walk many miles to find food, but they cover it quickly with their long legs. They can sustain a speed of 31 mph for many miles. They also eat a variety of plants as well even on occasions soil. Their height and great eyesight give them an edge on spotting predators quickly. They are most vulnerable at watering holes where they are forced to spread their legs out extremely far to be able to bend down. This prevents them from seeing predators and from escaping quickly. This is especially dangerous at a place where many animals congregate. Because of this, they only stop for water every couple of days. Please look through my website to learn more about these social creatures!
