Population Status
Giraffe population seems to have diminished severely in the west region of Africa. It has been estimated that there are potentially 200 giraffe left in the region.
Why?
The main cause of decreasing population is due to poaching. Giraffes are poached, illegally, mainly for their hide but also for their meat and tail. There is more development in this area. Habitats are being destroyed and there are more people to poach.
